Mini Mozart

Nursery Schools

Mini Mozart have been providing award winning group music classes to Pre-Schoolers since 2005.

Our primary focus when working in nursery style settings is on using music to support the EYFS Statutory Framework by getting children to actively listen.

The children are encouraged to be inquisitive about each new instrument they encounter which stimulates their broader intellectual curiosity.

Classes are taught by a rotating cast of conservatoire trained musicians so whether your pupils are destined to be singers, string players, percussionists, woodwind players or brassies, we’re sure to find an instrument to inspire them.

Oh, and parents LOVE the photos!

EYFS Statutory Framework

Communication & Language

Using carefully designed call and response exercises, echo songs, musical refrains and nursery rhymes, we help build vocabulary and encourage children to be curious and confident communicators.

Physical
Development

The sensory exploration of our musical instruments and props allows children to develop their fine motor skills.

The precision required to get a sound from an instrument or pop a bubble in time to the music helps develop hand-eye co-ordination, which is later linked to early literacy.

We support children in developing their core strength, stability, balance, spatial awareness, and co-ordination with our giant scrunchie, bouncy lycra and parachute exercises.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Through music the children learn to understand their own feelings and those of others. They’ll learn to recognise and express that music in minor keys feels sad, major keys feel happy, and a diminished chord means danger!

Literacy

Each class is based on a great work of literature. From classic fairy tales, through Aesops Fables, to Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, every class has a narrative arch which establishes the idea of a beginning, middle and end.

Rhymes, poems, songs and musical refrains help build vocabulary, and with older children we’ll touch on phonics through music.

Mathematics

The connection between music and maths is strong. Children learn to recognise patterns and relationships by counting the beats in a bar, through clapping exercises, or simply by counting the notes up a scale.

We often come across children who can count to twenty well before they’re potty trained, but it’s not until they’ve had to ‘wait for the note’ in one of our classes that they understand that 1-20 is not just a rhyme, but has a function.

Understanding the World

The characters and plots or our diverse selection of stories, biographies, rhymes and poems foster children’s understanding of the world and the people around them.

Expressive
Arts

This is where we really come into our own. The children will experience a variety of different musical instruments, learn the vocabulary to talk about music, and explore the key musical concepts of pitch, pulse, rhythm, dynamics, texture and repertoire.

Older children will be able to recognise different orchestral instruments by sight and sound and hopefully will have chosen one they want to play when the go to big school.

Let’s create some magical musical moments together

Class Format

Classic Mini Mozart classes last around 40 minutes and feature two musicians: A piano accompanist and an orchestral instrumentalist class leader.

Based on a different fairy tale, fable or famous person’s life, the musicians make each class feel like a joyous interactive mini musical. Your nursery staff are likely to look forward to it as much as the children do!

Our carefully curated lesson plans, props, games and musical exercises are designed so that the children learn not just music, but their core early learning goals through play.
